The Dubrovnik Summer Festival presents a rich programme of classical music, theatre, opera and dance on more than 70 open - air venues over 47 days in summer each year. The 63rd Festival season, in 2012 will take place from 10 July – 25 August 2012
Old City presents its worldwide famous Summer Festival each year. An amazing opening with fireworks and music is then followed by the shows in theatre, cinema, concerts, operas, and dance production on series of open stages, throughout this fascinating city.
The musical part of the festival was initially imagined as a showcase for the best domestic composers, soloists and orchestras, but today it has grown to become a real review of top solo artists and ensembles from all round the world. Opera, ballet and dance are also there to welcome visitors
During the time of Summer Festival, the face of Dubrovnik changes. It radiates with rainbow colors of artists: musicians, actors, directors, writers, dancers, photographers, painters and a lot more interesting personalities that nourish art.
Another name of this festival is Dubrovačke Ljetne Igre - Dubrovnik Summer Games. The Games maintain their tradition since 1950. Numerous famous artists from around the world are regular guests and many of them keep coming back attracted by the open stage of the Old Town
The opening ceremony is on the evening of July 10th, and the whole program lasts until the August 25th. During that period you can enjoy music, theatre, dance, folklore and midnight performances.
There is such a dynamic going on in the period of the Festival. Although it starts on July 10th, it represents a real opening of the summer.
